Crash Course on RFID:
For all our developers and people who are just interested, we have compiled a list of links that should allow you to quickly come up to speed on what we are doing.
Link 1: What is RFID? What is the EPC? A list of FAQs about RFID.
Link 1 provides a very high level view of RFID and a little bit of history.
Link 2: EPC Network Basic
All our applications will be following the EPC standard how RFID will be deployed. This link gives a basic overview of how the network works.
Link 3: More indepth look at the EPC
This link is very similar to link 2, but has a bit more detail about how the tags work and their unique identifier.
Link 4: Standards, Technology and Components
This link lists most of the components of an EPC RFID solution. For our purposes, we are interesed in the EPC-IS, ONS and EPC Middleware. The EPC Discovery service is also of great interest to us, but it is not listed there. Most of the documentation on the site is old and the specifications are still being finalized on much of the software.
Link 5: Explainations of the Object Name Service (ONS), EPC-IS and EPC Discovery Service
This link explains very well what each of the three applications do and what they are.
Link 6: Internet vs. EPC Network
To make sense of everything, here is a link that explains everything in terms of its Internet equivalent. Very good for people who have a networking background.
Link 7: The EPC Network Demo
VeriSign has made a lovely flash demo explaining everything visually. It really helps put everything together.
We hope that helps your understanding of everything. You should be up to speed now!.
